Dr. Eric Hulsey
Dr. Hulsey is the owner of Bentley Animal Hospital. He started working part time for Dr. Bentley in 1986 and he continued to work during his school breaks. In 1991 he graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. After a short stint in a mixed animal practice, Dr. Hulsey returned “home” to Bentley Animal Hospital as a DVM in January 1992. In 1998 Dr. Hulsey purchased the practice from Dr. Bentley and in 2001 moved us to our current location.
Dr. Stacey Matthews
Dr. Stacey Matthews joined our practice in February 2016. She is a University of Georgia graduate.
Dr. Matthews lives in Fayetteville, Tennessee with her husband and son. They have a mini-ranch consisting of horses, donkeys, chickens, cats and dogs. She has a parrot, Merlyn, that has been with her since 1990!
Dr. Matthews has worked in a variety of practices throughout the United States and this has served to give her a diverse and extensive knowledge of veterinary medicine. She enjoys both small animal medicine and surgery.
In her spare time, Dr. Matthews enjoys traveling, horseback riding, and spending time with her family and animals. She loves her job, stating “Veterinary medicine is such an exciting and forever evolving profession. I cannot imagine doing anything else.”
Dr. Katie Temmen
Dr. Katie Temmen has been a part of the Bentley Animal Hospital team since 2006 when she began shadowing as a high school student. After beginning college, she continued to work at Bentley Animal Hospital on her school breaks. She has now returned home to us as a doctor.
Dr. Temmen graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine where she developed special interests in Cardiology, Immunology, and Nutrition. She especially enjoys the opportunity to be part of both her patients’ and clients’ lives.
In her spare time, Dr. Temmen loves to hike, knit, read and spend time with her husband and their 4 pets: 3 dogs — Lily, Griffin, and Finn and 1 cat, Morticia.
Meet Our Staff
Annette Uhl: Practice Manager
Annette, her husband, and 2 daughters moved to Huntsville in 2007 from Long Island, NY. She spent 13 years managing a veterinary hospital in New York, and began her time here at Bentley in 2009 as a receptionist until 2016. In November 2020 she returned “home” as the hospital manager. When she is not here loving on our patients, she spends time with her oldest daughter in Montgomery, watching her youngest play soccer, adjusting to an almost empty nest with her hubby, or snuggling on the couch with her 8 dogs and 1 cat – 4 Japanese Chin (Emi, Sperry,Guinness, Groot), 3 Pomeranians (Finch, Ursa, Hudson), 1 CavaChin (Ciara), and Dolly the lone kitty.
Angela Pettie: Receptionist
With her husband, Angela moved to the Huntsville area from California in 2016. She has worked for veterinary offices since 2006, having taken some time off in the middle to be a mom to her four children. She loves to take family day-trips, and searching for inspiration on Pinterest. Football is big in her family, and “GO NINERS!” is their battle cry. She loves spending time with her family both two-legged AND four-legged: she has two cats, Moana and Maui, and miniature poodle, Bella.
Bethany Maynard: Veterinary Assistant
Bethany has been working in veterinary medicine since 2014. She moved to Fyffe in 2018 from Rainsville and joined our team shortly thereafter. Bethany’s favorite thing to do is spend time with her family and new husband Chris on her parents’ farm. She and Chris have a full house: a dog named Charlie, two hamsters (Harry 1 and Harry 2), and five cats: Milo, Freya, Ronaldo, Nox, and Sassenach.
Delaney Richter: Veterinary Assistant, Receptionist
Originally from Michigan, Delaney moved to the Huntsville area in late 2007. She has been working with Bentley Animal Hospital since 2015, having begun her veterinary career in 2008. She spends time in the Society for Creative Anachronism, plays flute, and enjoys board games. Delaney and her fiancé share their home with a precocious kitty named Toby and a teacup Chihuahua named Tripper.
Jena Tidwell: Veterinary Technician, Technician Team Leader
Jena has a long history in the veterinary field, complete with having worked in emergency medicine. Her calm demeanor and quick thinking are quite the asset to us at Bentley. Family time is a high priority for her. She enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, either on her Jeep or the family boat. Besides her husband and two sons, Jena’s family is completed by her pets: Great Dane (Asher), Aussie-doodle (Essie), Bloodhound (Moose), two cats (Dougie and Stormie) and rabbit (Cooper).

Megan Lewter: Receptionist, Receptionist Team Leader
Megan grew up a military brat and Madison County became her home in 2005. Megan became a part of the Bentley Animal Hospital team in 2016 and loves her job. She enjoys family time, and making memories with her son. She has a senior German Shepherd named Ruger, and a Crested Gecko named Greg. She is fascinated by owls, and hummingbirds are her spirit animal.
Michael Pickering: Veterinary Assistant
Michael has worked for Bentley Animal Hospital since 2016. In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing sports, especially basketball, soccer, and football. He cries “War Eagle” as he attended Auburn University; he is currently enrolled in an EMT program. Michael has one dog, Parker, who shares his love of playing Frisbee, and one cat named Wiz.
Pat Pruett: Kennel Manager
Pat has been in the veterinary business for over 25 years, and he has been with Bentley Animal Hospital since 2001, caring for our pets. He is a Huntsville native and has been married to his wife Tracy since 2009. He enjoys Punk Rock and wrestling while keeping a special place in his heart for Chihuahuas.
Samantha Downs: Veterinary Technician
Growing up on the family farm led the way to her love of animals. Sam has been in the veterinary field since 2000. She enjoys spending time at home with her family and tinkering around the farm as there is always a fence to mend, a weed to pull, or a dog to pet. When not working or on the farm, Sam enjoys attending garden club meetings, one to which she is an officer.
Shirley Pickett: Veterinary Assistant
Shirley has been with Bentley Animal Hospital since 2001. You can usually find Shirley keeping the doctors on track with their appointments or keeping things stocked up with all our necessities. From surgeries to treatments, appointments to boarders, she can do it all!
Tiffany Holder: Veterinary Assistant / Receptionist
