Dr. Eric Hulsey
Dr. Hulsey is the owner of Bentley Animal Hospital. He started working part time for Dr. Bentley in 1986 and he continued to work during his school breaks. In 1991 he graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. After a short stint in a mixed animal practice, Dr. Hulsey returned “home” to Bentley Animal Hospital as a DVM in January 1992. In 1998 Dr. Hulsey purchased the practice from Dr. Bentley and in 2001 moved us to our current location.
Dr. Stacey Matthews
Dr. Stacey Matthews joined our practice in February 2016. She is a University of Georgia graduate.
Dr. Matthews lives in Fayetteville, Tennessee with her husband and son. They have a mini-ranch consisting of horses, donkeys, chickens, cats and dogs. She has a parrot, Merlyn, that has been with her since 1990!
Dr. Matthews has worked in a variety of practices throughout the United States and this has served to give her a diverse and extensive knowledge of veterinary medicine. She enjoys both small animal medicine and surgery.
In her spare time, Dr. Matthews enjoys traveling, horseback riding, and spending time with her family and animals. She loves her job, stating “Veterinary medicine is such an exciting and forever evolving profession. I cannot imagine doing anything else.”
Dr. Katie Temmen
Dr. Katie Temmen has been a part of the Bentley Animal Hospital team since 2006 when she began shadowing as a high school student. After beginning college, she continued to work at Bentley Animal Hospital on her school breaks. She has now returned home to us as a doctor.
Dr. Temmen graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine where she developed special interests in Cardiology, Immunology, and Nutrition. She especially enjoys the opportunity to be part of both her patients’ and clients’ lives.
In her spare time, Dr. Temmen loves to hike, knit, read and spend time with her husband and their 4 pets: 3 dogs — Lily, Griffin, and Finn and 1 cat, Morticia.
Meet Our Staff
Angie Countess: Office Manager
Angie began working for Cole Animal Hospital in 1976 as a receptionist, and started here at Bentley Animal Hospital in 1997. Although originally she worked as a receptionist, she is now our Office Manager. Angie loves growing flowers and designing floral arrangements.
Pat Pruett: Kennel Manager
Pat has been in the business for over 20 years, and he has been with Bentley Animal Hospital since 2001, caring for our pets. He is a Huntsville native and has been married to his wife Tracy since 2009. He enjoys Punk Rock and wrestling while keeping a special place in heart for chihuahuas.
Betty McIllwain: Assistant
Everyone knows Betty. She has been with Bentley Animal Hospital for over 25 years now. There's not a client (or animal) that comes in here that she can't identify. She works hard and takes excellent care of our patients. No animal is too big or too small for Betty to hold.
Shirley Pickett: Assistant
Shirley has been with Bentley Animal Hospital since 2001. You can usually find Shirley keeping the doctors on track with their appointments or keeping things stocked up with all of our necessities. From surgeries to treatments, appointments to boarders, she can do it all.
Jena Tidwell: Technician, Technician Team Leader
Jena comes to us from the Animal Emergency Clinic in Huntsville. She is soft spoken and very intelligent. As you would expect, she is cool under pressure. Very caring towards our patients and the clients, she is a welcome addition to our team.
Delaney Richter: Assistant
Originally from Michigan, Delaney moved to the Huntsville area in late 2007. She has been working with Bentley Animal Hospital since 2015, having began her veterinary career as a receptionist in 2008. She spends time in the Society for Creative Anachronism and plays flute with the Prevailing Winds Flute Ensemble. Delaney shares her home with a precocious kitty named Toby and a teacup chihuahua named Tripper.
Bethany Waddell: Assistant
Bethany has been working in veterinary medicine since 2014. She moved to Huntsville in 2018 from Rainsville and joined our team shortly thereafter. Bethany's favorite thing to do is to spend time with her family on her parent's farm, with her new husband Chris, and with her canine best friend Charlie.
Sam Downs: Technician
Growing up on the family farm led the way to her love of animals. Sam has been in the veterinary field since 2000. She enjoys spending time at home with her family and tinkering around the farm as there is always a fence to mend, a weed to pull, or a dog to pet. When not working or on the farm, Sam enjoys attending garden club meetings, one to which she is an officer.
Michael Pickering: Assistant
Michael has worked for Bentley Animal Hospital since 2016. In his spare time, Michael enjoys playing sports, especially basketball, soccer, and football. He cries "War Eagle", as he has recently been accepted to Auburn University. Michael has one dog, "Parker" who shares his love of playing ball, and one cat named Wiz.
Linda Boyer: Kennel Assistant
Linda feels blessed to have a long career working with animals, having done so for over 20 years. She began working in the kennel at Bentley Animal Hospital in 2003. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Neil, watching wildlife, fishing, camping, and hunting for arrowheads.
Megan Lewter: Reception
In 2007, Megan began working at the Greater Huntsville Humane Society and became a part of the Bentley Animal Hospital team in 2016. She and her husband started their family with a German Sheppard named Ruger, and welcomed their adorable son in 2012. Along with Greg the Gecko, they have recently welcomed Ralph, a miniature schnauzer to round out the family. Megan enjoys family time, particularly blowing bubbles and making memories with her son. Hummingbirds are her spirit animal.
Angela Pettie: Reception
With her husband, Angela moved to the Huntsville area from California in 2016. She has worked as a receptionist or veterinary assistant since 2006, having taken some time off in the middle to be a mom to her four children. She loves to take family day-trips, riding on the Jet Ski, and searching for inspiration on Pinterest. In her spare time, Angela is also a photographer. Football is big in her family, and "GO NINERS!" is their battle cry. She loves spending time with her family both two-legged AND four-legged: she has two cats, Moana and Maui and miniature poodle, Bella.
Michelle Hulsey: Wife to Dr. Hulsey
Michelle helps around our office by organizing the lobby, doing our general deep cleaning and assisting with errands.
